What are Growth Groups?

Purpose and aims: Growth Groups are a vehicle to encourage and enable people to keep moving forward in discipleship. We all find it hard to keep going and sometimes we just get stuck! We all need a group around us who can encourage, but what if that group could also help empower our journey? Not just a friendly, cosy club nor an academic theological study group, instead Growth Groups are more like fertiliser on a plant! They aim to feed the right nutrients at the right time, supporting our growth but also challenging us to grow into mature disciples.

How do the groups work? They are small groups – similar to home groups (or Life Groups), however they focus on the tools needed for living out our discipleship and on the learning we need to live our calling – both in our everyday lives, but also in the specific Kingdom work that God has for us… Read More

In practise groups meet weekly or fortnightly with no more than 8 or 10 people. In the sessions there is prayer for each other, study around a particular tool or theme or Bible passage and also times of just relaxing and eating together! We seek to answer the key questions – What is God saying to us? What are we going to do about it? Individuals are encouraged to meet outside the groups in twos and threes to dig deeper into the answers and work out exactly what it means in practise.

If you are interested in joining a group…

You don’t need to have done the Discipleship Course to join a group. It is open to all! However, doing the course will help you understand better what the groups are trying to achieve and how to achieve it. Showing interest does not commit you to joining, but we will contact you to let you know more details (eg: where and when the groups are meeting). Groups can be online (via zoom) or in person. Currently in person groups meet in Winchester. If you are interested in starting a Growth Group in your area or online then please do contact me via the Contact page.
